My story

May 21st, 2008

Well I’ve started getting down to the business at hand. I’ve started a flow chart to that so far covers four of five chapters of the story. I’m still trying to figure in the aim of the main character, I don’t want to end up writing the a generic fantasy novel that we’ve all read before. I want to deal with characters in a way that make them human, not heroes. People whose lives have made them who they are and are still changing and confronting their own weaknesses and insecurities all the while still living in a world that is forcing them to act. So as I ponder this idea and look at writings of many other great fantasy authors I hope that I’m able to come up with something fresh. I may post some of the chapters here or elsewhere so if your at all interested keep that in mind.

It is back!

DrawerGeek Jr…. I guess these are the final two.

October 6th, 2007

Well here are the other 2 submissions for DrawerGeeks Jr. submitted months ago, shows how on top of keeping the journal updated I am. Seems the Jr. was short lived… too bad. Guess I’ll have to find my own topics now. The first was for the dragon submission, the second for self portraits.

Animation Commentaries

October 4th, 2007

Well this is pretty much exactly as described. I went ahead and added the videos for each animation too, that way you woundn’t have to go elsewhere to find it. However if you want to watch them and in quicktime format, they are on the website you most likely just came from.

Well each of these has a bit of my own personality in them. Some however are not as good as others. Understand this, I had 5 studio classes the semester I made all of these in. So some took the back burner while I focused on others. Now that being said I think each one turned out well, and I learned quite a bit from each so overall I am satified with the final products.

N.V.P
This was actually done my fall semester in Intro to DMA. If you watch N.V.P… The one scene that is black and white and is flashy, its actually supposed be a pan of a silhouette fight scene… And the final scene is not a floating piece of pooh, its a pirate ship and the black thing is a ninja and it doesn’t know what it. Its a PSA on tolerance. If you kind of get my humor by now you’d know that I was in charge of the pirates and my friend Vic was in charge of the ninjas. And the other member of our group did… the other stuff…

Circle Boogie (Genesis)
This was an animation that I thought was beautiful. It was a little fast and I wish I had had more time to work on this project. Overall I think the movement, though its not a lot, was smooth and the theme held.

Flight
This one I really enjoyed. It involved having a character throw a ball. Well the ball was mean, it not only hits the guy once, but twice the second time even harder. I thought I did pretty well capturing the natural movement that would have occurred but also exaggerated it to make it more comical. Then I thought about those embarrassing moments we have the people witness, and how we either laugh along or lash out. I had this character choose the later. I of the two flip books this was my favorite.

Freak Show (Cut-out Puppets)
Prior to working on this I had been sick a week so I had to play catch up. I did this in on night, I made the puppets, the sets, shot it, edited it, added the sound, and finally exported it. It is really terrible and that what makes it so great. Its just really obnoxious and silly, and goes so fast you just have to watch it again to really get what is going on. I and others think the cheesy sound effects, especially the tomato splat, are what really make the video. It really is just fun to watch.

Sand Animation
Before this I had just finished up my second 3D project I have yet to upload, and was exhausted and hungry, all I wanted to do was eat and sleep. But this had to be done the next day. For the first hour I just tried things for at least and hour and was just getting more hungry and cranky. I think you’ll see that in this piece. While its still comical its not quite as fun as Freak Show. It has profanity, but its censored so you should be safe.

Hitman (Armature Animation)
This was the final project for Animation I. It was really fun building these, each persons had a completely different look. I didn’t really know what I was gonna do with mine until it came to shoot day. I had made him guns and someone had made a box and door from earlier projects. I just didn’t have the time to waste so I just started shooting knowing he was gonna bust through the door and jump behind the box. It was such a pain when it got to the jump. The rig that was set up wasn’t really designed for what I wanted to do but I made it work. After that I knew I had to give this guy a reason for just busting in gunning so I made him a phone and had him call an employer. It was the best way I could make it tasteful for the events involving guns that have recently transpired. I was really happy when it was done, I thought I had captured the movement very well and the jump though I wasn’t sure turned out great.

Tuffles
This spawned from my boredom with the project. We had to make wind up toys, where I didn’t really like the assignment. So I adapted to suit me and make the project in my mind more entertaining. I kept it secret as best I could until the day the final project was presented. Everyone thought I was making a wind up bunny toy, but that was only a fraction of the truth. It was genius, no one expected it, people had seen glimpses of the goblin face but if they asked I said it was another project I was working on. The wind up bunny part of the animation was purposely left crude, after all it was only Tuffles the goblin pretended to be that toy. The hop up after it tipped over is my favorite part of the animation. The rest is good and brings comedy to counter the creepy factor, but the movement was my favorite part. This is my favorite of all the animations I completed last semester. Oh and I personally voiced it.

This was created using Maya. I’m not sure how it happened but when it came near to completion I got an error and was unable to get the fur to render. I tried many things, asked the teacher, but never found the remedy. In the end I just had to make the animation without. It was a bit disappointing because the fur looked great. Still the animation turned out awesome, was for the most part exactly how I planned it, and I love the reactions I get from it.

Coming Soon

May 4th, 2007

I hope to use this blog as a means to give a bit of information about each of my pieces displayed on the site. As well as keep people up to date on current projects and other events and concerns. Seeing as how I have 5 studio classes at the current time it may be a bit before everything comes together.
